Lizzy Wicks

I studied at the University of Surrey and gained an Honours degree in psychology and a diploma in Person Centred Counselling. I have continued to study and am a Master Practitioner In Eating Disorders and Obesity.
I am an active member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), the British Psychological Society (BPS) and the Federation of Drug and Alcohol Professionals (FDAP).
I carry full professional liability insurance.

I work with individuals who are experiencing life difficulties and want to try to resolve or understand their current issues and learn to cope with life more effectively. Im a fully qualified counsellor and psychotherapist, and run a private practice in Weybridge in Surrey as well as an office in London.
I work for the K
üsnacht Practice in Zurich, Switzerland working one to one in specialised fields for individuals who are addicted to drugs, alcohol, medications such as sleeping tablets or destructive behaviours such as co dependency, gambling or love & sex addiction.
I have previously worked in the renown Priory Hospital in Roehampton in London, working with addictions both pre and post treatment and continue to work as an aftercare specialist as well as a sober coach. My experience working with addictions continued at the high security prison HMP Send in Surrey, working on the RAPt team recently commended by the Duchess of Cambridge.
I gained experience working with Loss and Bereavement at the Sam Beare Unit in Weybridge. I found this work extremely rewarding and continue to work with people who experience loss in the many different ways that we experience grief, including loss of a relationship, children leaving home, loss of status, freedom, health, a home or our identity.
I was initially trained as a Humanistic Therapist but I now include many methods such as CBT, DBT in my work. I also use Lifelines, Food Diaries as well as mindfulness and stress relief skills depending on the needs of the client. Clients often need more than just being listened to - I feel that clients need support and direction to help them move forward and gain the motivation to make change.
I’m a knowledgable, experienced therapist who has had many of my own life experiences as well as knowledge gained from academic study. I can help provide you with new ideas, wisdoms, give you different perspectives on a problem and help you to identify and develop goals. During therapy we can work together on practising and developing new skills which can help to relieve stress and help with depression by introducing methods such as assertiveness, mindfulness, reasoning skills and psychological concepts that will help you to address problems both now and in the future.

I have recently completed A Master Practitioner in the Treatment of Eating Disorders, Nutrition and Obesity with Deanne Jade of the National Centre of Eating Disorders. I work with individuals who have Bulimia and Anorexia Nervosa as well a help people who have tried countless diets and fail to lose weight. I work collaboratively with individuals to help them change their lifestyles which helps them to manage their weight more successfully.

I have experienced many life difficulties myself where I have needed to find solutions, learn how to reach out for help and learn to nurture myself to aid recovery.

I am an experienced addiction therapist and work with individuals who have addiction problems or are in the early stages of recovery. Many of my personal experiences help me to relate to my clients - learning from life’s hard knocks has helped me to understand the difficulties that people face in life - I have studied psychology, addiction, abandonment, grief & loss, eating disorders and countless other topics but value my life experiences as part of the way I deliver therapy. Good therapists learn through life experiences which are not always what we learn from books. None of us are fortunate enough to get through life unscathed - however we can learn to manage difficulties, become resilient and heal from the past to strive for a better future for ourselves as well as for our loved ones.
